AlphaAbout RaphaNova International
For the Least. The Last. The Lost.
A Global Health and Humanitarian Initiative rooted in the Christian calling to serve, seek and care for those who are vulnerable, overlooked and in need.

RaphaNova International
For the Least. The Last. The Lost.
RaphaNova International is a Global Health and Humanitarian Initiative conceived by Benison P. Baby. It is being developed around a long-term commitment to global health, humanitarian medicine, knowledge and practical service.
RaphaNova is intended as a platform for developing projects, tools and ideas that can contribute to a clearer understanding of global health and humanitarian environments.
For the Least. The Last. The Lost.
The phrase reflects three recurring biblical themes: serving the least, recognizing that the last may be first, and seeking those who are lost.
Matthew 25:40 · The least of these
Matthew 20:16 · The last shall be first
Luke 19:10 · To seek and to save the lost
The name has both a personal and linguistic origin. At Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, the MBBS batch of 2016 was known as the Raphianz. That identity became one of the inspirations for the name RaphaNova, connecting the initiative to the medical community in which its founder was trained.
The name also draws on two words. Rapha comes from the Hebrew root associated with healing, while Nova is Latin for "new" and evokes something newly emerging.
RaphaNova is therefore a constructed name with three connected ideas behind it: a personal connection to the Raphianz community, the concept of healing, and the pursuit of new approaches to global health.
A RaphaNova International product
Mizpah
מִצְפָּה · Mitzpah / Mizpah
Mizpah is an intelligence dashboard developed as a product of RaphaNova. It is designed for monitoring the global health and humanitarian environment and for organizing information into structured signals and intelligence.
Mizpah comes from the Hebrew mitzpah, meaning a watchtower, lookout or watch place. The word carries the idea of a place from which something is observed.
That is the conceptual foundation of Mizpah. The dashboard provides a structured vantage point over the global health environment: observing signals, connecting evidence, identifying patterns and presenting information in a form that can support human understanding and action.
The person behind RaphaNova
Benison P. Baby
Physician · Global Health · Humanitarian Medicine
I am an Indian physician with an MBBS from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, with clinical experience in emergency and hospital medicine and an interest in global health and humanitarian medicine.
My work at Kachhwa Christian Hospital in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, and subsequently in Emergency Medicine at Apollo Adlux Hospital in Kochi has exposed me to very different healthcare environments and to the practical consequences of limited information, fragmented systems and constrained resources.
That experience has shaped the question behind RaphaNova: how can existing health information be organized so that clinicians, public-health professionals, humanitarian actors and other decision-makers can see the wider situation more clearly?
Mizpah is the first product being developed to explore that question.
Why Mizpah exists
The problem is not a lack of information
Global health information is distributed across surveillance systems, international organizations, humanitarian reporting, national authorities, research institutions and other channels.
Information can therefore exist without producing a clear operational picture. A report may describe one event, while another source describes a related development somewhere else.
Mizpah is designed to structure this environment around a small set of questions:
- • What is happening?
- • Where is it happening?
- • How significant is the signal?
- • What evidence supports it?
- • What else may corroborate it?
- • Why does it matter?
The principle
Information → Signals → Intelligence → Action
Mizpah separates the stages of the intelligence process rather than treating a news item as intelligence by default.
Information
Source material enters the system.
Signals
Relevant events become structured signals.
Intelligence
Evidence is organized and assessed.
Action
The resulting picture supports human decisions.
Technical architecture
A structured intelligence pipeline
Mizpah is built as a data and intelligence system rather than a conventional news website. Each layer has a defined function and can be inspected independently.
Source ingestion
Structured collection from selected authoritative sources.
Processing
Normalization, deduplication and deterministic extraction.
Signal layer
Events represented with geography, category, severity and status.
Evidence layer
Signals linked to their underlying source items and evidence.
Corroboration
Potential relationships between signals are assessed across sources.
Intelligence layer
Signals become assessments, implications and recommended review actions.
Current status
Mizpah Alpha
This website is the Alpha version of Mizpah, an intelligence dashboard and product of RaphaNova. The core ingestion, processing, signal, evidence and intelligence architecture is operational, but the product remains under active development.
The current Alpha is intentionally focused on WHO and UNICEF as its initial source foundation. Source coverage, classification methods, intelligence models and interface capabilities will continue to evolve as the system is tested.
Automated source ingestion and processing.
Signals, evidence and assessments are generated within the product.
Models, corroboration and analytical depth continue to evolve.
The future
From an initiative to a portfolio of practical work
RaphaNova is intended to develop beyond a single product. Mizpah is the first project and provides the initial technical foundation for the wider initiative in global health and humanitarian work.
Broader intelligence
Develop stronger relationships between health, humanitarian and environmental signals.
Better evidence
Improve source attribution, corroboration and confidence modelling.
Deeper geography
Build a clearer operational picture across countries and regions.
Analytical capability
Develop more sophisticated methods for detecting emerging patterns and changes.
Humanitarian application
Support people working in global health and humanitarian response with clearer situational awareness.
RaphaNova International
Develop the wider initiative and its future work in global health and humanitarian medicine.
